July promises to be fun at Quesnel Arts and Recreation Centre

The Arts and Rec Centre in Quesnel is offering workshops and programs throughout July

The City of Quesnel's Arts and Recreation Centre will be holding activities for youth, teens and adults in July.

For kids' arts activities there will be a jewellery making camp for children ages seven to 14 years old on July 11 from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Children in the camp will be able to make everything from bracelets and earrings to hair-clips and more. They will learn beading, wire art and polymer clay bead making. It will cost $32 for residents of Quesnel and $40 for non-residents.

The Summertime Art Camp will give kids the opportunity to explore over 10 different kinds of creative crafts. The camp is for kids aged five to 10 will be on July 24th from from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Registration is $20 for residents of Quesnel and $25 for non-residents.

The Mini-Youth Crash Course will teach youth about safety, first aid and babysitting. Youth will learn how to safely babysit and what to do in case of any emergencies. The course will feature guest speakers and a daily swim. It is for youth aged 11 to 15 and runs from July 2nd to 5th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Registration is $183.50 for Quesnel residents and $229.35 for non-residents.

The Summer Splash Camp is a day of playing in the water with swimming, water-wars, slip n' slides and more water-fuelled activities including a lifeguards vs kids water fight. The camp is on July 18th from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and for ages seven to 12. Registration is $42.30 for Quesnel residents and $52.90 for non-residents. 

For teens and adults there are three lifeguard courses available.

The bronze medallion which will teach people stroke efficiency in the water as well as CPR level A and various strategies for helping someone in distress in the water. The course is for ages 13 and up and will be July 9th to 11th from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The course is $163.96 for residents and $204.94 for non-residents.

The bronze cross is the next level up from the bronze medallion and requires it as a pre-requisite course. The course is for ages 13 and up and runs from July 23 to 25 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. 

The final course is the massive Career Aquatic Training School which includes five courses including the bronze medallion and cross, standard first aid, Swim for Life Instructor and National Lifeguard Pool Option. Completing the courses allows people to be eligible for employment. The 22-session program runs from July 9 to Aug. 22. The age requirement is 16 plus and the cost is $1,589 for residents of Quesnel and $1,986.24 for non-residents. People who complete the five courses are eligible for a $500 reimbursement if they are employed by the City of Quesnel for six months.
