The Canada Post office was temporarily evacuated following a white powder found in a package.

The Canada Post office on Reid Street in Quesnel was temporarily evacuated Wednesday (June 26th) morning after an employee called emergency services about a white powder coming out of a package. The Quesnel fire department responded to the call and quickly found there was no concern for safety.

Canada Post employees stood outside the building while the fire department looked into the substance. The evacuation was called off and the all clear was given within 15 minutes of the original call to emergency services.

The RCMP was called off by emergency services before they arrived to the scene.

The concern around white powder can be from illegal substances and chemicals sent in the mail. Canada Post policy when a suspicious package is encountered is to call emergency services, isolate the package and evacuate the area.
