It was a hot day, and nobody does hot like a firefighter.

The Kersley Volunteer Fire Department took advantage of the sunshine and the waterspray joy built into childhood when they rolled their firetrucks up to Kersley Elementary School. They hooked up their hoses and opened fire on any kid who wanted to get hit by the water and the inclination.

“The Kersley VFD has been splashing Kersley students for many years, maybe even decades, at the annual Kersley PAC Fun Sports Day,” said school principal Nancy Danuser. “The students love it, and it is a great way to get community involved in school events.”

It’s fun for the firefighters, too, and also an important long-term recruiting exercise that has worked more than once.

“Several Kersley students have become members of the Kersley VFD and many of the members have children who attend Kersley Elementary,” Danuser said. “Today’s event is just one of several events we enjoy doing with the Kersley VFD throughout the school year. Students learn about fire safety, get to sit in a fire engine, see how a fire station operates, and learn about volunteering in their community. We are grateful to have their support and look forward to many more years of water-filled fun.”
